how did you get the iron oxide in the form of the transfer?

There's decal paper you buy from a company called Bel Decal. You run it thru a laser printer (not ink jet) which has iron oxide in the toner. Not all laser printers work; I use an old HP laser printer for mine. You soak the printed image in water and put it on the surface just like a temporary tattoo. When you fire it, the image is fused with the glaze.

so, on your peices, would you fire it 2 or 3 times? one bisque fire and one glaze fire with decal or bisque, glaze then low fire with the decal?

Here is a pretty good explanation of the technique - [link]

3 times - one bisque, one cone 6 glaze fire, and one cone 04 decal fire.

Sweet! Thanks for the recommendation - I'm definitely a coffee lover (one of those types that needs an IV drip.)

It should be, but it's generally recommended that hand made pottery be handwashed, just to be safe.

Nice! Did you draw it in with crayon before glazing?

No; I glazed it and fired it first, then applied an iron oxide decal that I drew and printed up, and fired it on at a lower temperature.
