Secrets

This is my first completed project for my metalsmithing and jewelrymaking class. The project was to create a chain with five elements on it, and we were asked to try to make the closure or clasp a part of the design and be creative. I made five mini books on my chain. It's all copper, held together with wire and tube riveting and some solder, except for the insides of the books, which are images cut from a watercolor monotype on rives bfk cotton rag paper. This thing was a bitch to make! It was certainly more complicated than I expected. Each book has a"keyhole" riveted to it, and the bar and toggle closure is a key and keyhole. The surfaces have acid etched designs in them or hammer texturing, although you can't see the surface too well.
